we are nature

Art is often disconnected from the materials it engages with, the people behind their productions and the places from which they are extracted, processed, and shipped. Fibre provides the opportunity to connect with every stage of production, to understand the impact of every strand.

This website features finished works and works in progress as I try to find this connection, through experimentation, between art and the processes that provide us with the materials for artistic work and daily life.

The different aspects of my work aim to dissolve the often arbitrary divisions between traditional fibre crafts, art, and nature. I use painting, sculpture, and film in conjunction with crafts to highlight the artistry to be found in activities that are still largely associated with women’s work and pastimes.

The artificial boundary we enforce in our everyday language and behavior between the human (industrial/synthetic?) and natural worlds distorts how we perceive and interact with our surroundings, and art.

Through my newer projects, I want to center the steps, from animals, plants, and minerals to textiles and paints, involved in all art forms. This is a call to see not just a visual product, but the culmination of complex, mind-boggling processes that connect every element in our world. As such, I strive to produce art that does no harm.
